The issue described in http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2010.1_Errata#Broken_Volume_Control_with_USB_Speakers_.28jumps_from_very_faint_to_very_loud.29 is still present in kernel 2.6.36.2-desktop-2mnb for x86_64 for Intel Corporation|82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller & is solved by that solution as well.
