How to Join the Mandriva Localization Project
- New members should follow all the steps in succession, since this will give them all the necessary access rights and tools to get involved with Localisation (L10N) and the Mandriva Community Project in general.
- Existing members that have already followed some of the steps (for example, have already followed steps 1-3) don't have to repeat them.
Step 1: Sign up for the mailing list
- Visit the cooker-i18n mailing list page and subscribe to the
cooker-i18nmailing list, which is the main translation mailing list. - Check out this page to see if there is a special mailing list for your language. If yes, please subscribe to that too.
- Post a short self-introduction email to the cooker-i18n mailing list and to the list of your local team.
If you have any problems with the following steps, post a question to the list. The members are happy to help you with any problems you might have and you will likely get an answer in just a few minutes or hours.
Step 2: Contribute translations
Before applying for an svn translator account, you should start by contributing some translations by email. Use anonymous access to the svn server to download the latest translation files, and send the updated files to the corresponding translation team or mailing list.
Step 3: Apply for a Mandriva infrastructure account
See Account creation procedure for details. Please check out the subversion for translator tutorial for useful tips on how to use subversion for translation task.
Step 4: Create a Mandriva wiki account
- You need to have a Mandriva account on my.mandriva.com to login to this wiki, using the same user name and password.
- If you are starting a new language, or want to step up as the maintainer of one, please follow the instructions on the Localization Team Coordinator page.
- Create a personal page by directing your webbrowser to the wiki-page User:your-accountname and start filling it in. Examples of personal pages can be seen by browsing the userlist. A personal page is very useful for Mandriva contributors to get to know and contact each other.
Step 5: Checklist
At the end, you should have the following:
- A subscription to
cooker-i18nmailing list and, if there is one, to your own language's one - One SSH key
- A Mandriva account that you can use for all your contributions (bugzilla.mandriva.com, svn.mandriva.com, wiki.mandriva.com...)
- A wiki account
- Your language and translation team appearing on the translation teams page
- A personal homepage on the wiki
- A self introduction sent to the mailing list
Step 6: Thanks!
Sit back and enjoy your achievement.
You are now a fully recognized member of the Mandriva community, capable of digitally signing documents and emails, submitting contributions to our subversion, publishing content on the wiki, submitting bugs, following the discussions of our groups and joining other Mandriva teams! :-)
Please, check the Mandriva software translation guide to get you started.
