The Freenode IRC Network

  • Clients available in Mandriva repositories include: konversation (KDE4), quassel (Qt), xchat (Gtk+) and pidgin (Gtk+ IM client)
  • If you are going to use IRC you should consider registering your nick.
  • With a registered nick you can apply for a host cloak to hide your IP address.
  • When using the network, you should be aware of Freenode policies.
  • When using Mandriva channels, you should be aware of the Code of Conduct

Topic Channels (English Language)

Support

#mandriva is the main channel, the default for IRC clients in the distribution. Help is provided mostly by users who volunteer their time. This channel should be used for support issues only, and language should be kept clean and polite. MajorMishap can provide help information and Sophie provides RPM lookup. Please do not paste more than a couple of lines directly into the channel, use a pastebin instead.

There is an excellent quick-guide Getting Help on IRC, it covers most of the points that anyone using a support channel should know.

Useful Links

Chat

#mandriva-chat is the 'offtopic' channel. Used for general chat, socilaising, and wider-ranging discussions not suitable for #mandriva. The topic is open, but the aim is to keep things friendly, and as with most public channels contentious subjects (politics, religion etc) should be treated with caution. Use common sense and avoid heated debates.

Cooker Distribution Development

#mandriva-cooker is the IRC home of the Cooker development distribution, where developers, maintainers, packagers and users work on the next release of Mandriva Linux.

KDE Development

For packaging and development of the KDE desktop in Mandriva visit #mandriva-kde.

Please note!
This is not a support channel.

Kernel Development

#mandriva-kernel is the specialist channel for the discussion of kernel related issues.

Language Channels

To make it easier for people who speak languages other than English to get help, some users have set up language specific channels

Some of these channels may be empty at times. You can help by auto-joining and staying around in the channel of your language. The more that people do this, the more useful the channel will become.

Channel Bots

There are several bot programs running in the channels. You can PM any of them to talk to them in private and avoid spamming the channels (/query <bot>). Please do not bring your own bots into Mandriva channels.
