[edit] Hauppauge WinTV Go

Under Mandriva Linux 9.1 through 10.0 a Hauppauge WinTV tuner card ( aka: wintv go ) works fine. there is nothing special you must do to get it to run. Some benefits of using this card under Linux are that the screen resolution and quality is actually better, due to being able to take advantage of the graphics acceleration on my Nvidia TNT 32MB video card (I run the latest Nvidia linux drivers). In windows the card works but is only availabe in a small box, ( I could never get it to run at full acceleration under win98) in Linux I can watch full screen with excellent quality. Of course any bttv848 based card should work as well.

A word about Hauppauge WinTV cards, the 'highter end' WinTV PVR cards require a much more 'non-trivial' install, and are not based on the bttv chips.

[edit] Pinnacle (Miro) PC TV

Autodetected as bttv (brook tree 878) under Mandriva 10.1 . Very easy to configure with xawtv.

On Mandriva 2006.0 Official, though the card was autodetected, the tuner type wasn't. I had to pick the correct one in 'Mandriva Linux Control Center -> Hardware -> Set up TV Card'. I suggest taking note of the tuner type before installing the hardware, as it is hard to find otherwise.

kdetv crashed my machine hard everytime, except for the first time it ran (hard lockup, no remote access, nothing in logs, reset button solution). tvtime works perfectly.

[edit] MSI TV-@nywhere

Works under Mandriva Linux 10.1 and 2006.0. With 10.1 I had to download newer v4l/cx88 drivers and force the kernel to load them. With 2006.0 and the newer kernel, everything you need is there. The drake setup doesn't have an entry for this card, so you will need to tweak the modprobe files by hand:

  • in modprobe.preload add a line
cx8800
  • in modprobe.conf add
options cx88xx card=13 audio_debug=0

I'm using this card with MythTV and it works fine. On the older 10.1 system I also used tvtime, but haven't tried tvtime on 2006 yet.
