Harddrake2
From Mandriva Community Wiki
Harddrake is a very important tool in Mandriva Linux and is part of the Mandriva Control Center. Its purpose is to detect each hardware component of your system and to configure and install components if needed. It displays a complete description of each component and allows you to modify their options and parameters by launching configuration tools. Harddrake also consists of modules that are launched at boot time to help to efficiently detect hardware.
To start Harddrake :
- Open Mandriva Control Center then in the Hardware tab, select Browse and configure hardware.
or
- Open a console and type the command harddrake2.
The interface is made up of two panes : the one on the left shows the detected hardware. Clicking on an item brings up its desciption in the right pane.
Depending on the selected hardware component, you will be given various choices in the bottom right of the window :
- Set current driver options : This will allow you to set advanced options. This is only useful if you have a problem and you know which option to set.
- Run config tool : This will launch the hardware component's specific configuration tool, depending on if it's a sound card or a graphics card for example.
There is a special category called "Unknown/Other", for hardware that is currently unrecognised or hardware that does not fit into any of the other categories (thermal sensors, random number generators, power buttons, etc.).
You can also enable some entries in the "Options" menu to be able to automatically detect certain hardware that is not detected by default. In this way you can additionally detect printers, modems, Jaz drives and parallel Zip drives. You need to restart harddrake for these changes to take effect.
