Hp pavilion tx1000 egalax Touchscreen
From Mandriva Community Wiki
The HP Pavilion tx1000 series of PC's is a very technologically advanced and stylish looking mobile computing platform. As sold by HP they have only one weakness....Windows Vista (and 32 bit at that). So you have decided to buy one of these. Good choice. You want to put Mandriva Linux on it. Well that can be initially tricky. Mandriva installs and is very useable but the bells and whistles on some of these notebooks will not work. If you follow the stock installation of Mandriva on this series of PC's here is a list of things that do not work out of the box.
Touchscreen (If your model has it. Not all tx1000's do!) - detected but not configured in any way.
Remote control
Multimedia control buttons (found on side of screen)
Full sound support from ALSA - sets up such that audio can be heard through onboard speakers but not all jacks and ports work. Particularly no sound from speakers on the expansion base 3.
Most importantly the computer frezing, locking up, crashing, etc on boot.
All of these can be tricky and vexing to address. So far I have not found a solution to one of these that did not requier some comfort with the process of compiling software, specifically kernel modules and drivers. Which sounds complex but really is not.Contents |
Boot Problems
The way to make this particular type of computer boot up properly is as follows.
Restart the computer as many times as it takes to get it to boot up. If your computer is like mine it will boot up about 1 out of 5 tries after installation of Manndriva Linux.
Once you reboot, asuming X11 works, go to the mandriva control center (or open a terminal and type sudo drakconf).
Go to "boot" and "set up boot system". Then click "advanced". Uncheck "Enable APIC" and check "Enable Local APIC". Then click next.
Select each entry you see and make sure the options noapic irqpoll and noirqdebug are listed in the box labeled "Append". If they are not then type them in.
From now on your TX1000 series PC should boot up without problems.
Note: if you find your HP Pavilion is booting or running slow, go get speed up hp solution.
Touchscreen
To get the touchscreen working you will need to have the following software installed on your PC.
Nvidia's proprietary drivers
Compiz fusion
The evtouch package
Both of these can be installed through the mandriva package manager with the PLF repositories added (google "easyurpmi" and follow their directions for adding these repositories). For the more daring there is the option of obtaining the Nvidia drivers and the evtouch drivers from their sources. Either method is not difficult and will have the same results.
Once these packages are installed as per their published directions all one needs to do to get a fully functioning Mandriva 2008 laptop with the touchscreen ability is follow the directions you find at this address. Linux-Touchscreen Driver for X
Notice for users of 2008.1: I have yet to get this feature to work. Part of the problem seems to have been what Xorg version came with 2008.1. What I have so far is that it seems I have to retrograde back to Xorg 7.2 from Xorg 7.4. 7.4 had problems with the touchscreen drivers.
Finger Print Reader
Still no idea how to get this to work. Without learning C++ and proramming a driver myself.
Multimedia Buttons
Not sure how to get this to work. I include in this section the remote control that comes with the Tx1320us model.
Full HD audio support
For this I am going to try to complie ALSA from sources. This has worked with other HP/Compaq laptops. This also usually broke getting sound from Java and Flash applications as well as most video players... but at least my music will come out in surround sound.
Updated Versions
Pavillion TX 2000 TX2500
These will work out of the box with Mandriva 2009.1 Spring edition or latter without further configuration.
