Quassel tips and tricks

Launch Quassel at KDE startup

Follow the following steps :

  1. Run "Configure your desktop (Mandriva Menu > Tools > System Tools > Configure your desktop)
  2. Click on the "Advanced" tab
  3. Double-click on "Autostart"
  4. Click on "Add Program"
  5. Choose Quassel IRC in the Internet category and apply.

Hide window on Quassel startup

Just close Quassel by clicking on the upper-right cross (this does not close the program, it remains the tray icon). If this tray icon is closed by the system or by right clicking, Quassel will then start again but the window won't show up.

View the channels list

Follow these steps :

  1. Right-click the server name (freenode)
  2. Choose "Show Channel List"
  3. Click on "show channels" (wait time as the list loads)

This allows to see all existing channels on the IRC server. It is then possible to find a particular channel with the filter field.

Switch to 'away' status

As with any IRC client, simply type /away to appear absent (your nickname in the bottom left of the bar of discussion will appear with a little clock). Type/away again to reappear normally online.
