Other errata pages are also available for older versions:

[edit] Testing Candidate Updates

When an issue in Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring is identified, the maintainer of the package concerned may build a package he believes will fix the bug, and upload it to a certain Mandriva software repository named /main/testing which is dedicated to testing potential fixes for such issues. This package can then be tested by users affected by the issue and by the Mandriva quality assurance team. If this testing determines that the package resolves the issue and does not cause any new ones, the package will be issued as an official update which will be provided to all Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring users via MandrivaUpdate.

If you are affected by an issue for which a candidate update package is available and you would like to help test the candidate package, you may configure your system so the Mandriva package management tools will recognize the /main/testing repository as a source of installable packages. For instructions on how to do this, please see installing and removing software (advanced use: backports and candidate updates).

There is also a /contrib/testing repository which performs the same function for packages in the /contrib section (although please note that we do not guarantee issues with /contrib packages will be fixed, the maintainers of each package may choose whether to issue updates at their own discretion). Configuring this repository is covered on the same page.

[edit] Installing Updates

Updates for packages in the /main, /non-free and /contrib sections of Mandriva Linux can be installed using Mandriva Update. You can run Mandriva Update from the Mandriva Control Center by navigating to the Software Management tab and clicking on the link labelled "Look at available updates and apply any fixes or upgrades to installed packages". Unless you disable it, you will also be notified of updates by the Mandriva Online update notification system, which displays an icon in the system tray to notify you whether updates are available.

[edit] Resolved Issues

This section contains issues that have been resolved by official updates.

[edit] kerberos utilities do not work

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30349 and update advisory MDKA-2007:026. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for krb5, the kerberos authentication protocol and supporting libraries and utilities, contained a compilation error which caused the kerberos utilities to look for modules in the wrong location (and consequently not to work correctly). An updated set of krb5 packages, 1.5.2-6.2mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on April 21st, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install these updates.

[edit] SSH does not work with protocol version 1 (and other 3des / OpenSSL-related issues)

See also update advisory MDKA-2007:027. The packages included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for openssl, a secure communications and encryption toolkit, contained a problem with the 3des cipher. Among other issues, this causes SSH connections via protocol version 1 to fail. An updated set of openssl packages, 0.9.8e-2.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on April 24th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install these updates.

[edit] squidGuard files deleted on package update

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30486 and update advisory MDKA-2007:029.1. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for squidGuard, a filter plugin for Squid, contained a bug which would cause files from the package to be deleted when the package was updated (for instance, when upgrading from an older release of Mandriva Linux). An updated squidGuard package, squidGuard-1.2.0-13.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on April 30th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] Warning message about IPv6 startup displayed when IPv6 is disabled

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30561 and update advisory MDKA-2007:031. If IPv6 has been disabled by the user, the Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring startup process may display a warning that IPv6 cannot be loaded. This warning has no consequences and may safely be ignored. An updated initscripts package, initscripts-8.51-6.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on May 2nd, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update. This update also prevents the boot process from waiting several seconds for no reason when no network link is available.

[edit] "Operation not permitted" warnings displayed during verbose startup and when restarting resolvconf service

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30561 and update advisory MDKA-2007:031. When the resolvconf service is started (either during boot or manually), the following warnings are printed:

error: "Operation not permitted" reading key "net.ipv6.route.flush"
error: "Operation not permitted" reading key "net.ipv4.route.flush"
error: "Invalid argument" reading key "fs.binfmt_misc.register"

These warnings have no consequences and may safely be ignored.

[edit] X applications display in black and white

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30514 and update advisory MDKA-2007:032. The package for xinitrc, which contains X initialization scripts, included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring contained a bug which would cause basic X applications like xfig to display in black and white. An updated xinitrc package, xinitrc-2.4.19-2mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on May 9th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30454 and update advisory MDKA-2007:036. The kernel included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring contains a bug which can cause the system to freeze when USB devices are disconnected. A kernel 'oops' error may be displayed or found in the system logs after rebooting. An updated kernel package, kernel-2.6.17.14mdv-1-1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on May 10th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update. Please note that kernel updates are not pre-selected in MandrivaUpdate like other updates: you must select them manually. You must reboot after installing this update. If you use the NVIDIA or ATI proprietary graphics card drivers on your system (or any other driver that is packaged separately from the kernel, for instance the gspca USB video camera driver), please ensure you also upgrade the kernel-source-stripped or kernel-source package, or the hardware will fail to work when you restart the system.

[edit] Shutdown message always displayed in English

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #27663 and update advisory MDKA-2007:037. The initialization scripts included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring contain a bug meaning that the message displayed over the graphical shutdown screen (Shutting down the system...) is always in English, even on systems where the configuration means it should be in another language. An updated initscripts package, initscripts-8.51-6.2mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on May 10th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #29839 and update advisory MDKA-2007:062. The package for rpmdrake, the Mandriva Linux graphical software installation tool, included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring contains a bug which means that when you select a package for installation that requires other packages to be installed, a message will be displayed that says "To satisfy dependencies, the following package(s) also need to be installed:", but no list of dependencies will actually be shown. The dependencies can be seen by clicking "More Info". An updated rpmdrake package, rpmdrake-3.68-1.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on June 20th, 2007 that resolves this issue. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for consoletools contains a tool named vt-is-UTF8 which is used when initializing virtual consoles at boot time. This tool contains a bug which can cause it to hang. This can result in various problems, such as reboots failing to work correctly and dropping to a black screen with a vt-is-utf8 error message. An updated console-tools package, console-tools-0.2.3-61.2mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on July 4th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] Multimedia keys cannot be used (setkeycodes cannot handle keycodes higher than 128)

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #21741 and update advisory MDKA-2007:078. The console-tools package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring contains a bug in the setkeycodes utility, making it unable to handle keycodes higher than 128. As the multimedia keys on many modern keyboards have keycodes higher than 128, this makes it effectively impossible to use these keys. An updated console-tools package, console-tools-0.2.3-61.2mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on July 4th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30303 and update advisory MDKA-2007:091. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for drakx-net, the Mandriva network configuration tools, contained a bug which could cause drakroam (the Mandriva wireless networking manager) to reset the wireless mode to Master when it should not be changed from Managed. An updated drakx-net package, drakx-net-0.12-1.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on October 8th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] Mandriva Samba sharing configuration tool incorrectly disallows share names that are partially identical

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30099 and update advisory MDKA-2007:091. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for drakx-net, the Mandriva network configuration tools, contained a bug which caused draksambashare, the Mandriva tool for sharing partitions via the Samba protocol, to disallow a share name if it was only partially identical to an existing share name. This meant, for instance, that after creating a share named bigshare, you could not then create a share named hare. An updated drakx-net package, drakx-net-0.12-1.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on October 8th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for drakx-net, the Mandriva network configuration tools, contained a bug whereby the draksambashare and draknfs tools for sharing partitions via Samba and NFS protocols would display only in English. Translations for these tools were present but were not used due to a bug in the tools' code. An updated drakx-net package, drakx-net-0.12-1.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on October 8th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] mc does not display correctly in non-English languages

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #31542 and update advisory MDKA-2007:092. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for mc, a console file manager, may not display correctly in non-English languages. This is because Mandriva now defaults to UTF-8 (Unicode) locales, but mc's translations were not encoded in UTF-8 format. An updated mc package, mc-4.6.1-6.3mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on October 8th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] mc file transfers via fish protocol result in corrupted files

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #26498 and update advisory MDKA-2007:092. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for mc, a console file manager, contains a bug which can cause file transfers via the fish protocol to result in corrupted files, depending on the server software. An updated mc package, mc-4.6.1-6.3mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on October 8th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] Initialization problems in nfs-utils

See also update advisory MDKA-2007:094. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for nfs-utils, a collection of tools for the NFS network filesystem, contains some problems in its initialization scripts which can cause various issues at boot time. A missing dependency on portmap means services start in an arbitrary order, and parallel execution of rpcidmapd and rpcgss can lead to a launch failure due to a sunrpc module loading failure. An updated nfs-utils package, nfs-utils-1.0.12-13.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on October 22nd, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] mkdosfs cannot check bad blocks when creating filesystems larger than 2GB in size

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #27436 and update advisory MDKA-2007:113. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for dosfstools, containing utilities for creating and manipulating FAT filesystems, was compiled without large file support. Consequently, the mkdosfs tool cannot check for bad blocks when trying to create a filesystem larger than 2GB in size, which usually means the operation will fail. An updated dosfstools package, dosfstools-2.11-4mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on November 21st, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] SSL support missing from irssi

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #34951 and update advisory MDKA-2007:095. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for irssi, an IRC client, was built without SSL support. An updated irssi package, irssi-0.8.10-10.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on October 24th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] Some printers requiring external firmware downloads cannot be configured

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #35424 and update advisory MDKA-2007:121. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for printer-filters-utils, which includes a driver for ZjStream-based printers, contains a bug. When these printers require an external firmware file to work, Mandriva attempts to download the firmware file automatically. However, the URL for these firmware downloads was changed, causing the process to fail. An updated printer-filters-utils set of packages, printer-filters-utils-2007-9.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on November 23rd, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] Network printers not detected by printer configuration tool

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30090 and update advisory MDKA-2007:122. Prior to Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring, the Mandriva printer configuration tool would scan the local network for ports commonly used by printer sharing systems in order to detect network printers. In Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring, this scan is only performed when the CUPS printing system is not in use: when CUPS is in use (which is the default), a less comprehensive SNMP-based search system is used. Several users reported that Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring did not detect network connected printers, while previous Mandriva Linux releases did, which suggests that the SNMP-based search is inadequate and the more comprehensive scan should still be used. An updated printerdrake package, printerdrake-1.5.7.2-2.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on November 26th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] gphpedit cannot be installed due to missing library

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #34913. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for gphpedit, a PHP-centric text editor, contained a bug which caused it to be impossible to install. On attempting to install the package, an error message would be displayed to the effect that the file libdbus-1.so.2 was required but could not be installed.

We have chosen to fix this issue by providing a fixed package through the /contrib/updates repository. The updated package, gphpedit-0.9.91-2mdv2007.1, was released on December 9th 2007. See the "Installing Updates" section, above, for instructions on installing packages from /contrib/updates.

[edit] Run-time configuration changes for top not correctly stored

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #19589 amd update advisory MDKA-2007:131. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for procps, which contains several important utilities including the top process and resource monitor, contains a bug. If a user runs top, makes a configuration change (for instance, enabling color output mode by pressing the z key) and then attempts to save that change by pressing the W key, the change is not correctly saved, and on running top again, the original configuration is used. The reason for this problem is that top generates a malformed ~/.toprc file when attempting to save configuration changes. An updated procps package, procps-3.2.7-3.1mdv2007.1, was released through the official update channels on December 18th, 2007 that resolves this issue. Use MandrivaUpdate to fetch and install this update.

[edit] checkinstall libraries incorrectly located on x86-64 architecture

The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for checkinstall, a system for tracking the installation of software compiled from soure code, installed shared library files to /usr/lib on x86-64 installations, rather than /usr/lib64 as it should.

We have chosen to fix this issue by providing a fixed package through the /contrib/updates repository. The updated package, checkinstall-1.6.1-3mdv2007.1, was released on April 19th, 2007. See the "Installing Updates" section, above, for instructions on installing packages from /contrib/updates.

[edit] python-pg cannot be installed

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30366. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for python-pg, which is an interface between the Python programming language and the PostgreSQL database system, was built against an old version of PostgreSQL and consequently could not installed. Attempting to install the package results in the following error message:

Some requested packages cannot be installed:
python-pg-3.7-1mdv2007.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied libpq.so.4)

We have chosen to fix this issue by providing a fixed package through the /contrib/updates repository. The updated package, python-pg-3.7-2mdv2007.1, was released on April 21st, 2007. See the "Installing Updates" section, above, for instructions on installing packages from /contrib/updates.

[edit] virt-manager does not run due to missing dependencies

See also Image:bug_small.png Bug #30234. The package included with Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring for virt-manager, a tool for managing virtual machines, was missing some dependencies. This means that it can be installed via the official package management tools without also triggering the installation of other packages that are in fact necessary for it to run. The missing dependencies are pygtk2.0-libglade, gnome-python-gconf, gnome-python-gnomevfs, libxml2-python and librsvg.

We have chosen to fix this issue by providing a fixed package through the /contrib/updates repository. The updated package, virt-manager-0.3.1-3mdv2007.1, was released on April 21st, 2007. See the "Installing Updates" section, above, for instructions on installing packages from
