An overview of new features and packages in Mandriva Linux 2007.0:

General changes

• New release extention for packages mdv2007.0.
• New distribution tree structure (now the official tree will have 4 subdirectories per media, /release for official packages, /updates for official updates, /backports for cooker backported packages and /testing for packages previously in the /devel/community tree (which is now obsolete)).

• New media handling (including an improved auto_inst.cfg.pl allowing to have installation on one machine and media on others)
• New Dual Arhictecture boot for DVDs which includes both 32 and 64 bits versions.

Mandriva tools

Graphical interface configuration

• Improved XFdrake with support of new Xorg extension (composite, 3D...)
• Drak3D (to configure 3D desktop)

Network

• New simpler network interface configuration (including 3G, EDGE support)
• Improved network notifications regarding Wifi network discovered, network address change...)
• DrakVPN: configuration tool for VPN network
• Invictus Firewall: redundancy system for firewall (with transparent take over)

Package management

• New software installer

Boot

• Parallelized initscripts (pinit)
• Improved Udev rules including several coldplug fixes (for example when you boot with your USB devices already plugged)

Proprietary software

Note: proprietary sofware is not available in Free, because of licensing issues and non following of the free software philosophy
