Rfbdrake allows easy setup to share your desktop with others


Mandriva have provided a wizard in Mandriva Control Centre to allow users to easily configure their computer as a vnc server using the tightvnc flavour of VNC (Virtual Network Computing).

Server Configuration

On the computer whose desktop you wish to share. Open Mandriva Control Centre and check to see if a category called 'Online Administration' is present.

If the 'Online Adminsitration wizard is not already present then install it using either Image:drakrpm-icon.png drakrpm or from the command line with :

[root@computer ~]# urpmi rfbdrake


Select tightvnc in preference to standard vnc because it offers higher compression than standard vnc.

To start the Wizard open Mandriva Control Centre and select the selection titled 'Online Administration' and select the entry titled 'Remote Control'.

You can start RFBDrake with:

[root@computer ~]# rfbdrake


Select "Allow control of my machine" and give a strong password that clients must provide to gain access to the vnc server.

Click on 'Launch server' to start the vnc server.

An icon labelled 'RFB' will appear in your system tray.


Client Computer

On the computer you wish to use to access the remote server. Open Mandriva Control Centre>Online Administration>RemoteControl In the Remote Control GUI select 'Want to take Control'

Give the host name or IP address of the server, and enter the server password.


Background

What the GUI is doing

The GUI is making Rfbdrake more usefriend than a text-tool. It provides an interface nice and makes you effective in your work with this software.
