Talk:Installing Mandriva Linux

From Mandriva Community Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Hello,

Due to numerous DVD-reader related DMA access problems since 2009.x, it is needed to boot & install ONE from an alternative method than CD/DVD: either lan or hd, usb being too recent).

Is it possible to mention in this page whether the installation from hd mentioned in 2.2 works also for the ONE edition, I guess it works only for non-live editions, free or powerpack ?

Thanks,

lb.

USB from Windows

Winimage either doesn't work anymore or is too complex for me to make work. Found UNetbootin, Universal Netboot Installer on sourceforge and it is a beautiful thing. It even had several options to get Mandriva off the net automagically (older versions). I had already downloaded the latest ISO, the Mandriva wiki says to use WinImage, which won't read the ISO properly (opens it, but just shows an empty root directory and writes a blank USB). The UNetbootin installer on the other hand, worked perfectly with about three clicks total, and I am now booting Mandriva from USB just fine.

Now to update the Mandriva wiki....

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/unetbootin/unetbootin-eeeubuntu-windows-276.exe

creates a perfect bootable USB key every time
