Devices handling tests for KDE4 on Mandriva 2009.0

Back to kde4 2009 specs

What is done here? Plug a device and check how kde4 handles this.

Just an example on how this list should work (please dont forget bold on failed itens):

      • DVD - ok: it opened a list with available programs and asked me witch one i want to use
      • Music CD - fail: no programs was associated with this cd, i could see it only as a data device.

So write down all thinks of devices you have tested and what happens:

      • USB audio card - ok: KDE4 does nothing(but the new device appears normaly on systemsettings to select it or not) and the new card appeared as option under pavucontrol.
      • DVD and VCD: - fail movies are opened like a data DVD and VCD, new device notifier asks to open it with dolphin, dragon player and totem are actually installed.
      • Audio CD: - fail: i put the audio cd and nothing happens, i have kscd installed on my system.
      • Pendrive: - pass: i put a pendrive, a kde applet notified this one and it works fine.
      • Floppy disk - pass: i put a floppy disk, a kde applet notified this one and it works fine.
      • Ipod - fail: it was opened like a data device.
      • Mp3 Player - fail: it was opened like a data device.
      • Video file types - pass: But, totem is the default player
      • Audio file types - pass: But, ogg files are opened with totem
      • Other file types - pass: They were opened with their common applications

About the migration script

On a upgrade 2008.1 to 2009 on KDE desktop kde3 will still the default desktop(even after upgrading to 2009), if the user want KDE4 he needs to install manually "task-kde4", if the user is installing manually task-kde4 he is probably coming from a 2008.1 upgrade to 2009 and he needs to run kde3tokde4 script and if he want he's settings and data back, i propose to add this migration script to task-kde4 and the

On this script we need more:

      • It has to create a Desktop icon (visible) and, when the user hit the icon it has to open a popup saying that this is a kde3 config import wizard, and if this is a fresh install, not an upgrade the user can safely remove the program using the package manager (rpmdrake) and then ask somethink like "Do you want to import your kde3 Applications data and settings?"
