Xfce desktop environment is a recent similar in many ways to GNOME, with which it shares some applications. Its particularity and its reputation lies in the fact that it is very comprehensive and powerful, while remaining lightweight and economical resource. According to its creator, "Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for various * NIX systems. Designed for productivity, it loads and executes applications fast, while conserving system resources. - Olivier Fourdan, creator of Xfce.

To install task-xfce, launch Image:drakrpm-icon.png Install and Remove Software and search for the package task-xfce .

Select it and click on Apply. Help - Package page on Doc4Mandriva


You can also install from the console as administrator the following command : urpmi task-xfce

Caution !

The Xfce desktop environment is not available in the 'Mandriva Free'.

Since version 2007.1, the volunteer development team made a Mandriva Mandriva Linux One edition with Xfce as desktop called XfceLive.
