La traducción de las herramientas de Mandriva Linux es esencial para la amplia aceptación de Linux en el escritorio. Sin embargo, esto es más que solo traducir palabra por palabra todos los mensajes. Se debe ser tan consistente como sea posible con las traducciones de GNOME, KDE, GNU etc. Ademas es posible que existan guías para traducir el lenguaje informático a su idioma.
- Traducción de la Base de conocimientos del Club Mandriva y las noticias. Son dinamicamente actualizadas. Abierto solo a miembros del club Mandriva. Para convertirse en un miembro del club, vea la Pagina de usuarios del Club Mandriva Linux.
- Traducción del wiki sobre Mandriva Cooker. Cree una cuenta en bugzilla y lea la sección correspondiente para más información.

Para extraer en un solo sitio todos los directorios que contengan archivos traducibles, utilice el repositorio subversion. Vea en:Development/Howto/Subversion#Subversion for translators para más detalles.

[editar] Ideas para mejorar el proyecto de traducción
- proveer de alguna infraestructura de comunicación
- una lista i18n por cada idioma para discutir y coordinar las traducciones
- se proveerá en el futuro (según entiendo -- Steffen Barszus - 07 May 2004 )
- tal vez un paquete por idioma, ¿Se pueden almacenar las notas y guías de traducción?
- se usara una pagina del wiki, vea más arriba.
- una lista i18n por cada idioma para discutir y coordinar las traducciones
Motivo: Es difícil de trabajar y organizar sin infraestructura o retroalimentación , es preferible tener una lista por cada idioma. Las personas podrán comunicarse en su idioma nativo. Las listas i18n se mantuvieron con ese propósito.

People get there work and give it back to the language maintainer, That one gives it AFAI understood to i18n-patches@mandrivalinux.org or checks it in CVS or something like that. (Not sure How it should work). The problem is that translation is a free software project too and it just doesn't work, people can become unresponsive ..... With CVS a lot of typical problems could be solved, which we currently have.

- Ready translations are send to language maintainer or i18n-patches@mandrivalinux.org, or one has write access to cvs and transmits it. So it goes direct in po Module in Mandriva CVS. Things that are checked in there, are in the next package that is build.
Reason: The above way could open a door for not so experienced translators too, or some workflow, for testing translations, re-read translations by other persons and so on and so forth. I just can speak for the german translation team, that was nearby non existant some months ago. We (the german translation team) are trying to use an external CVS now and one person who sends translations to i18n-patches@mandrivalinux.org to get both in sync.
- Proofread the strings before sending them to the translators
- *.pot files are available via http://www.mandrivalinux.com/l10n/pot.php3 . Now we would need some english natives that have fun to proofread strings and could provide diffs Pablo on the cooker-i18n-list: "proofreading them and sending diffs (diff old.pot new.pot > file.diff) to me would be indeed very helpful (send diffs of the pot files, it is much easier for us to find the place where to fix it that just telling the wrong string and how to replace it)"
Reason: As a translator I spend way too much time posting incredibly stupid language errors to cooker-i18n. I want to spend my time translating, not correcting strings from developers who never paid attention during english lessons. And when the errors are fixed the messages are marked fuzzy so that we have to go over it again!
- Set up an online translation service. Pootle or some other tool of this kind will allow easy way to contribute to the Mandriva translation effort and for translation coordinators to monitor and manage the progress of their team. Pootle documentation is here
