About Mandriva LinuxMandriva Linux is a community-based Linux distribution, suitable for a wide range of solutions: from clustering to servers, firewalls and - most commonly - desktops. Mandriva Linux has a long history of open development, especially via the "Cooker", a fluid distribution that resembles a stable release for a few weeks every six months. This page will help you find out more about the development process, so that you too can help make Mandriva Linux the best environment for you. If you are new to Mandriva Linux and/or Cooker, you may want to consider reading some background information on the distribution, including WhosWho, Frequently Asked Questions, or the Cooker Participation HOWTO (which should help you get up and running with Mandriva Linux Cooker). Mandriva Linux isn't just for Intel desktop processors. Take a look at what's going on with Mandriva Linux ports to other platforms.

Mandriva ReleasesFor information on different releases, please see the Release Information page. Interested in helping test the next Mandriva release? Install Cooker to get a chance to work with this ever-changing development release. Join the Cooker mailing list to participate in the discussion with the other testers and packagers. It's important to remember that this is an unstable, testing version and bugs can and will appear. Search for and report bugs on the Mandriva Bugzilla. Frequently, issues come up that are too complicated to contain in a simple e-mail message. That's where the technical notes come in handy. Within this topic, you will find detailed descriptions of problems -- and solutions. This section also contains detailed desciptions of some of the technologies that make possible some of Mandriva Linux's tools.

How You Can HelpYou do not have to be technically inclined to help with Mandriva Linux! Install Cooker and report bugs on Bugzilla. We are always looking for help with documentation. You can start right here, on the Cooker Wiki! Register to get an account on the Wiki, then read the Wiki style policy. Do not forget that ideas are often best discussed on the Cooker mailing list, but long-form documents (especially ones with images) are at home here on the Wiki. More wiki- or web- related discussions are best placed on the web-discuss mailing list. If you are interested in assisting with the development of Mandriva Linux, these are the tasks that are involved in making the distribution what it is. Refer to the different development tasks to familiarize yourself with some of the components that make Mandriva Linux unique among Linux distributions. A substantial amount of time is spent packaging software so that it works with minimal effort. If you would like Mandriva Linux to support your native language better, you may be interested in translating parts of Mandriva Linux. Also, documenting an ever-changing distro can always use extra hands. Mandriva Linux wouldn't be what it is without the thousands of people who help test the distribution. We hope you'll join us to make this the best distribution possible.
