This has been known to work well for some, and not so well for others. One problem that happens to some is that when looking at installable rpms using rpmdrake, the information below summary is missing (i.e. filelist, ...).

I think this will be caused by the fact that no packages are left in the source, due to the media not not being mounted, or being emptied of used packages. dvgevers 4 February 2007

The examples given here earlier were Acrobat reader and java from Sun: nowadays most Mandriva Linux versions have an rpm package available for these dvgevers 16:40, 4 February 2007 (CET)
