[edit] 3Com

[edit] 3Com 3C509B

  • ISA type card: works very well with Mandriva Linux 9.0 upto 2005 LE (DickGevers)

[edit] 3Com Airconnect ( 3CRWE777A) PCMCIA in PCI adapter

  • Works in Mandriva Linux 10.0 OE and 10.1CE . - Card works perfectly if taken out of PCI adapter and used in a laptop pcmcia slot.
  • Install wireless-tools, linux-wlan-ng (don't think this is needed for kernel 2.6+ as prism2_cs modules are in the kernel aleady) (TerryRigby)

[edit] 3Com Office Connect PCMCIA (3CRWE154G72)

  • There appear to be different cards with the same name, older ones are supported under prism54 (http://www.prism54.org), but newer ones are not supported at all! (SimonOosthoek)

[edit] 3Com Office Connect Wireless 11a/b/g PCMCIA card (3CRWE154A72)

  • Atheros based card, which should be supported by the madwifi driver, it uses a binary uploadable firmware blob. More info at http://madwifi.org

[edit] 3Com card (unknown type?)

  • worked on 7, 8.2, 9, 9.1 and 9.2 - stopped working in 10 com (with 2.6 kernel) ok with 2.4 (NigelH)
  • (What was the problem exactly?)

[edit] Belkin

[edit] F5D6020 ver.1 and 2 (wireless card)

  • Version.2 of this (11 Mbps) card uses the ATMEL chipset, whereas version.1 used the PRISM chipset. If you want an easy ride make sure you buy the version.1 card as PRISM based cards are very well supported with a variety of wifi tools like "kismet"and "wlanfe". Both work though.
  • To get version2 to work, see the HOWTO on http://people.zeelandnet.nl/triade/linux/Belkin.html. This does not work with a 2.6.x kernel! HarM - 25 Oct 2005

[edit] F5U001 USB Ethernet Adapter

  • This is a USB NIC that only does 10BaseT. Just plug it in, and it works. If you do not have a network connection configured for it, it will try DHCP for a dynamic IP address.

[edit] Wireless 802.11g-54 Mbps USB adapter

  1. Have the kernel-source rpm installed
  2. untar the tar.gz file cd into the created ./rt2570-xxxx/Module/ directory.
  3. do (as root) make and make install.
  4. Copy the thus created file /lib/modules/(kernelversion)custom/extra/rt2570.ko to /lib/modules/(kernelversion)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
  5. depmod -a
  6. insmod /lib/modules/2.6.11-6mdk/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2570.ko
  7. Edit/create /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-rausb0 or use mcc to add the new interface rausb0 with appropriate settings for your needs.

[edit] Broadcom

[edit] Broadcom BCM4301

[edit] Buffalo

[edit] Buffalo Wireless WLI-CB-G54A

Installed drivers using ndiswrapper and configured with wireless-tools package

Step 0: Install Packages and download drivers

# urpmi ndiswrapper
# urpmi wireless-tools

Grab the necessary windows drivers from the CD or from http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/supported_chipsets.html

Step1: Load module
# modprobe ndiswrapper

Step 2: Find hardware info; Find the pci_vendor pci_device numbers using lspci and look for the entry correlating to your card. Mine was 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94306 802.11g (rev 02). The important part is the 03:00

# lspci -n
03:00.0 Class 0280=: 14e4:4320 (rev 02)

14e4 is the pci_vendor number and 4320 is the pci_device number

Step 3: Load Driver

# loadndisdriver 14e4 4320 /usr/local/ndiswrapper/bcmwl5.sys /usr/local/ndiswrapper/netcbg54.inf

where the last two parameters are the files for the windows driver

Now the drivers are loaded and you should get some output regarding the settings. I believe the lights on my card blinked when the driver was loaded as well. Use IwConfig and IfConfig to get the card setup or use IfUp. I couldn't figure out how to use MCC to configure the card. Final note that caused me problems for awhile - don't disable the lo interface, nor the sit0 interface. (JobEvers)

[edit] Buffalo Wireless WLI-PCM-L11GP

This card works nicely with Mandriva 2005LE and 2006 .

[edit] Buffalo Wireless WLI-PCM-L11G

This card works nicely with Mandriva 2005LE and 2006 .

[edit] D-link

[edit] D-link DFE-690TXD

  • 10/100Mbps Cardbus PC Card. I don't remember having to do much more then plug it in, do the network configuration, and have it work.
  • Works in 9.2 through 2006.
  • Mikkel 18:31, 16 November 2005 (MST)

[edit] Intel

[edit] INTEL PRO 100 (built into Tosh 6100)

  • see 3Com PCMCIA above (NigelH)

[edit] Microsoft

[edit] Microsoft MN-520 Wireless Notebook Adapter

  • 802.11b Wireless PCMCIA Adapter. On 9.2 it was not listed in /etc/pcmcia/config , so you have to add an entry for it. This is fixed in LE2005.
card "Microsoft Wireless Notebook Adapter MN-520"
version "Microsoft", "Wireless Notebook Adapter MN-520"
  bind "orinoco_cs"
  • Once you have the entry for it in, it works well. WEP is supported without making any changes.
  • Tested on 9.2 through LE2005. I have not tested it on 2006.
  • Mikkel 18:28, 16 November 2005 (MST)

[edit] Proxim

[edit] Proxim Harmony 8430

  • 802.11b Wireless PCMCIA Adapter. The card is not listed in /etc/pcmcia/config, so you have to add an entry for it.
card "Proxim Harmony 802.11b"
version "PROXIM", "Harmony 802.11b/LAN PC CARD"
  bind "orinoco_cs"
  • If you want to use WEP, you have to update the station firmware on the card. See http://linux.junsun.net/intersil-prism for how to do it. This is a 0x8002 card, so you need the slxxxxxx.hex firmware.
  • Tested on 9.2 through 2006.
  • Mikkel 18:28, 16 November 2005 (MST)

[edit] Realtek

[edit] Realtek 8139

  • With the 8139too driver (AnneWilson)

[edit] Sitecom

[edit] Sitecom WL-012

  • USB WLAN Adapter: Uses prism2 chips and works using prism2-utils.rpm and wlan-ng.rpm . Sitecom offers howto's on their site http://www.sitecom.com.They've become fairly aware of linux. Look for the penguin! ;)

[edit] Sitecom Cardbus CB-001

  • Fast Ethernet PC CARD: Does not work on Mandriva Linux 9.2 but works "out of the box" with 10.0 using the 2.6 kernel.

[edit] Sweex

[edit] Wireless LAN PC CARD

[edit] Zircom

[edit] (P/N:98-10023-03)

  • 10Mbps PCMCIA Ethernet card works out of the box on Sony Vaio PCG F250

[edit] Ralink chipsets
