[edit] Metapackages
DoK: task-xfce-naked is a very basic Xfce setup and is called so to differentiate from the current task-xfce-minimal
roudoudou: May be if we renamed them (see below), the specifity of each of this meta-package could be more obvious ?
- task-mandriva-{xfce,kde,gnome,<other_DE>}: install the {xfce,kde,gnome,<other_de>} desktop environment with default application choice made by mandriva (could be different than the default apps shipped upstream). One policy could be that 1 task = 1 apps.
- task-mandriva-{xfce,kde,gnome,<other_DE>-extra: install a selection of plugins,themes,screensaver... for the specified mandriva DE.
- task-{xfce,kde,gnome,<other_de>}-minimal: install the minimal {xfce,kde,gnome...} DE
- task-{xfce,kde,gnome,<other_de>}-all: install all of the finest {xfce,kde,gnome...} application. There could be many apps for the same task.
- task-{xfce,kde,gnome,<other_de>}-devel (exist at least for kde): install the {xfce, kde, gnome,} development environment
WDY ?
Peter Lamm: By definition XFCE is a slimmed down desktop, xfce-minimal is a redundancy like saying tiny shrimp, 'task-xfce' should be enough. Let the user use MCC to his hearts content adding on all the extras that only he or she knows what they want.
DoK: roudoudou's naming convention seem very good to me.
[edit] Graphic Tools
DoK: I prefer gqcam over f-spot as photo-managemet
- gqcam is a webcam applcation, you probably mean gqview, but it has a terrible user interface - Frederik Himpe 14:37, 26 May 2007 (CEST)
DoK: yes, gqview it is and I like the UI - it's light and GTK which is inline with Xfce
Lezard: digikam instead of F-spot
-
neoclust: to many dependancies with kde lib so it'll be to heavy
- Lezard: not sure it would be heavier than mono-based application
-
And it does not integrate well in the GTK+ based XFCE environment - Frederik Himpe 14:37, 26 May 2007 (CEST)
- Lezard: well, I think it is the purpose of a XFCE to provide correct configuration to ensure that KDE apps are well integrated, which is perfectly possible
Consider gthumb. It is GTK+ based, has a nice interface, and has all necessary features. As it's written in C instead of C#, it's more lightweight than F-Spot - Frederik Himpe 14:37, 26 May 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Entertainement
DoK: AFAIK Xfmedia can play MP3, CD's and all other formats
Scara: shall we keep Google picasa as it'll install a non-free software? ok for firmware and drivers but no forr application in my opinion. Shall we also do a completely free One Xfce (keeping the non-free one)?
DoK: my POV is that we shouldn't block the users from what they want so the google-apps-installer can stay but we must see that a proper "this is not a free software" note will be presented during the installation.
